The National Athletic Trainers’ Association has released a position statement on facilitating work-life balance in athletic training practice settings. The document offers 25 strategies and recommendations regarding practices for supervisors or administrators, practices for the individual in the workplace, and non-workplace strategies and recommendations for the individual.
I really enjoyed this position statement. As a student and getting ready to go into the work force within a year, this is helpful. Balancing work and life is a stress I see everyday with my preceptors. The lifestyle of an Athletic Trainer is anything but routine. The recommendations of leaving work at work, honoring your down time, being a team player, encouraging sick leave and paid travel to conferences are changing the profession. The community is recognizing where we need to improve. I see it in my own school. They are transforming the old way and trying to implement new protocols of the profession. I believe these recommendations are a huge stepping stone for Athletic Trainers. I am definitely keeping this position statement in my back pocket.
