The American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association Task
Force on Clinical Practice Guidelines, and Heart Rhythm Society have provided
guidelines for the evaluation and management of patients with syncope. These
guidelines were developed in collaboration with the American College of Emergency
Physicians and Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. An Executive Summary accompanies
the main set of guidelines. The guidelines document covers general principles,
evaluation and diagnosis, management of cardiovascular conditions, reflex
conditions, orthostatic hypotension and intolerance, pseudosyncoope, uncommon
conditions associated with syncope, and other topics. The document also
provides recommendations for
athletes.

I found several important pieces of information while scrolling through and reading some of this document. Syncope and cardiac related conditions aren't one of the most common topics that I, personally, hear being discussed as an AT. This was a nice refresher. I found the table explaining the several types of syncope to be helpful and quite interesting. I definitely took away a nice reminder to stay on your toes when evaluating an event of syncope from this document, as it actually reports a higher prevalence of syncope in a young population than I would have assumed, and quite a few serious potential causes of syncope.
