The Wilderness Medical Society released an update to their clinical practice guidelines for the management of exercise-associated hyponatremia. The purpose of this document is to provide strategies to reduce the risks of poor outcomes related to exercise-associated hyponatremia, recommend safe hydration practices to prevent overhydration during exertional activities, and the most effective treatment protocols. The authors offer several recommendations and provide a figure to highlight a treatment algorithm for managing someone suspected of exercise-associated hyponatremia.
