The American Academy of Family Physicians, the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Sports Medicine, the
American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American Orthopaedic Society
for Sports Medicine, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine
have released a consensus statement “to help the team physician understand
selected nutrition issues to advise athletes on issues related to health and
optimal performance.” The document describes nutrition for out-of-season
training, nutrition for in-season training, nutrition for weight modification,
principles of weight gain , principles of weight loss, pre-exercise nutrition,
nutrition during exercise, and nutrition for post-exercise recovery.

“The objective of the North American Spine Society’s (NASS)
Evidence-Based Clinical Guideline for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Lumbar
Disc Herniation with Radiculopathy is to provide evidence-based recommendations
to address key clinical questions surrounding the diagnosis and treatment of
lumbar disc herniation with radiculopathy.” The document describes
recommendations for diagnosis/imaging, outcome measures for treatment,
medical/interventional treatment, surgical treatment, and value of spine care.
