Simple verbal instruction improves knee biomechanics during landing in female athletes.
Milner CE, Fairbrother JT, Srivatsan A, Zhang S. Knee. 2011 Jun 13. [Epub ahead of print]
The purpose of this study was to assess the immediate effect of 3 simple verbal instructions (e.g., land softly) on knee biomechanics during landing among 12 female recreational athletes. One of the findings indicated that telling a participant to land softly decreased the peak vertical ground reaction force and increased the peak knee flexion angle compared to a control condition. Verbal instructions had significant influences on ground reaction forces and may represent a key aspect of more complex training programs designed to reduce knee injury risk.
