“This document provides an overview of selected medical issues important to team physicians who are responsible for athletes with sports-related concussion (SRC). This statement was developed by the Team Physician Consensus Conference.” The authors provide a summary of defining sports-related concussion, biomechanics and pathophysiology, epidemiology, preseason planning and assessment, same-date evaluation and management, post-same day evaluation and treatment, graduated return to school strategy, diagnostic testing, neurological sequelae of brain injury, treatment of persisting symptoms after a sports-related concussion, prevention, legislation and governance issues, and retirement and disqualification.
