A consensus statement was released from a
workshop that was funded by the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine
(AOSSM) and the Patellofemoral Foundation (PFF). The workshop included 16 individuals
with expertise and experience in orthopaedic surgery, physical therapy, and/or basic
science. After a brief description of the methods, the authors provide some
definitions, and discuss key topics: factors contributing to normal patellofemoral
stability, factors contributing to instability, key questions to ask during history
taking, physical examination key points, imaging key points, classification of
patellar instability, and surgical treatment.
