“The American College of Physicians (ACP) and American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) developed this guideline to provide clinical recommendations on nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic management of acute pain from non–low back, musculoskeletal injuries in adults in the outpatient setting.” The document is accompanied by several figures to help explain the 4 recommendations. The authors considered several outcomes while drafting the recommendations: pain relief at less than 2 hours, pain relief at 1 to 7 days, physical function, treatment satisfaction, symptom relief, and possible adverse events.
