This document represents the synthesis
of the Italian Consensus Conference on Guidelines for Conservative Treatment on
Lower Limb Injuries in Athlete. The complete document (written in Italian) can
be reviewed at the Italian Society of Arthroscopy’s website. The conference
included 70 experts from various medical backgrounds (e.g., orthopaedic
surgeons, sports physicians, physiotherapists). The document has 4 sections: 1)
biology and aetiology of muscle injuries, which defines muscle injury; 2) muscle
injuries classification, including staging of direct and indirect muscle
injuries by ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging; 3) muscle injury clinical
assessment; and 4) muscle injury conservative treatment.
