This consensus statement is an update of
a consensus statement from 2012. The purpose of this evidence-based guideline was to encourage
uniformity of diagnosis and treatment of acute lateral ankle sprains. The
primary purpose was to reduce the long-term symptoms resulting from this injury.
The results cover predisposing factors (intrinsic or extrinsic risk factors),
prognostic factors, diagnostics, treatment (e.g., functional treatments,
surgery), prevention, return to work/sport, and cost-effectiveness.
